Is the Heart Our Window to the Brain?

12-1 pm ET

As our tools to observe and measure brain activity become increasingly sophisticated, so does the education and expertise needed to interpret them. What if a simple biometric such as heart rate variability could provide unique insight into the complexities of our mind? Alex Ni and Penijean Gracefire have been working with a dedicated professional team to explore the logistical practicality of using heart rate variability metrics to track response patterns in individuals using neurofeedback and photobiomodulation. The central question many people ask about neuromodulation is “how do I know if it’s working?” When working on stubborn brain patterns, it can take weeks, sometimes months, for people to notice the external evidence of internal changes. Heart rate variability is a well-documented biomarker of stress and relaxation states, and could emerge as a valuable tool to help monitor state arousal during feedback or stimulation sessions. One of the primary challenges providers encounter when offering remote neurofeedback services is reduced access to opportunities to observe client responses and changes over time. Gathering and reviewing HRV data points during a remote neurofeedback program could add critical dimension to ongoing assessment and progress tracking. This webinar will:

  • Introduce a simple, streamlined integration of HRV with Neurofeedback and Photobiomodulation
  • Discuss the value of collecting HRV readings simultaneously with EEG data
  • Demonstrate how providers can offer multimodal remote support using an easily accessible mobile platform
