Today’s guide is Dr. Stephen Porges, well known for the polyvagal theory, which describes the role of the vagus nerve in regulating the reaction to potential danger. Dr. Porges is Distinguished University Scientist at Indiana University, where he founded the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina, and Professor Emeritus at both the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Maryland. He has published hundreds of articles and books, and developed the Safe and Sound Protocol, a non-invasive vagus nerve stimulator which helps reduce autonomic reactivity.
